This training course is designed to meet the needs of those people involved with the handling or management of hazardous materials (HazMat) and/or workers who may have the potential to be exposed to hazardous materials or hazardous waste. This training program has been developed in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Standard 29 CFR § 1910.120 for General Industry and 29 CFR § 1926.65 for the Construction Industry.
Topics include job and task hazard/risk analysis, safety/environmental site characterization, air sampling and monitoring, written program requirements, chemical protective clothing, toxic effects of chemicals, respiratory protection, confined space entry, safe work practices, rights and responsibilities, general safety, site control, recognizing hazards, and dress-out exercises. Course material also includes review of the OSHA standards such as hazard communication, personnel protective equipment (PPE), trenching & shoring, and other regulations appropriate to the attendees.
This 40 Hour HAZWOPER course provides the necessary information to participants to allow them to safely work on hazard waste sites and provides the necessary training to allow workers to respond safely to hazardous materials incidents. The course combines lecture, hand-outs, visual presentation, and hands-on exercises for initial HazMat training as well as for the experienced supervisor who needs this documentation. Each participant will receive a copy the Department of Transportation Emergency Response Guidebook, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Pocket Guide to Hazardous Chemicals and a course manual.
