Lead
Lead is a common indoor contaminant that should be evaluated in buildings scheduled for demolition or significant remodeling; especially in buildings that will be inhabited by young children after such activities. Lead is generally found in the paint used on door and window trim but can also be found on other painted surfaces inside a structure.
Lead Sampling
Samples through all layers of paint should be taken to assure that any lead present has been identified and if lead is found on any of the tested surfaces a comprehensive abatement plan must be used to assure protection of workers during the lead removal process and the affected areas must all be cleaned and should be tested to guarantee that there is no residual lead that can result in occupant exposures after completion of the work.
Testing for lead should be a common occurrence as part of a Hazardous Materials Survey of a property that is scheduled for demolition or renovation.
